Must KnowIf you're getting questions wrong because you don't know the concept, no amount of test strategy will help. Identify your content gaps first (algebra, geometry, data analysis, trig?) and go deep on those topics using Khan Academy or College Panda before worrying about speed or strategy.
After your first practice test, categorize every math error by topic. Topics with 2+ errors are content gaps. Spend a week on each.
Never Do Math in Your Head — Show Your Work
Must KnowEven if you're confident, write out your work. Mental math errors are invisible until you check your work. Writing down steps also helps when revisiting a question — you can see exactly where your logic went and catch errors faster.
Commit to always writing out your work, even for 'easy' questions. Especially write out what you're solving for at the top.
Master the Key Algebraic Concepts
Must KnowThe SAT math section has heavy emphasis on: linear equations/inequalities, systems of equations, quadratic equations (factoring, vertex form, quadratic formula, discriminant), exponent rules, function notation, and proportional reasoning. Know these cold.
Create a 'formula sheet' from scratch without looking anything up. Any formula you forget is a gap to fill.
